Uber in Corfu: How It Really Works in 2026
Yes — Uber has been available in Corfu since April 2023. But it is not the Uber most travellers expect. In Greece the platform is only permitted to operate as Uber Taxi, which means the app dispatches the same licensed metered rank cabs you would find at a stand. There is no UberX, no Comfort, no Black. You are hailing a regular Corfu cab through a familiar interface — not booking a private chauffeur.
Why Uber in Corfu Often Disappoints
Because Uber Taxi only connects you to the existing rank-cab fleet, you inherit every limitation of that fleet: the same drivers, the same metered fares, the same shortages. During the peak season (June–September) most Corfu cab drivers prefer working the airport rank in person rather than accepting app jobs. Opening Uber and seeing "no cars available" is the norm in July and August, especially late at night, for longer runs to North Corfu, or after a delayed flight.
The app gives you visibility, not a guarantee. There is no way to pre-book a Uber Taxi in advance for a specific time, no fixed price, no flight monitoring, no meet & greet inside the terminal, no luggage assistance commitment.
What About Bolt and FreeNow?
Bolt operates in Athens and Thessaloniki only — Bolt is not available on Corfu. FreeNow does not cover the island either. Uber Taxi is currently the only ride-hailing app you will actually see drivers on in Corfu, and even then with the patchy summer availability described above.
Why Greek Regulation Means No "Real" Uber
Greek licensed cab regulations are strict and the cab cooperatives have historically resisted ride-hailing platforms. The compromise that allowed Uber back into Greece was that the platform may only partner with licensed cab drivers — it cannot dispatch private cars in the way it does in most other countries. So while Uber works in Corfu in name, what you actually get is a cab.
The Smarter Alternative: Pre-Booked Private Transfer
A pre-booked private transfer is a fundamentally different product to a rank cab dispatched via Uber. With Lasmari Chauffeurs you get:
- A fixed price confirmed at booking — no metered surprises, no night surcharge anxiety
- Real-time flight monitoring — if your flight is delayed, your driver adjusts at no extra cost
- Meet & greet inside arrivals with a name sign
- Mercedes-Benz V-Class or E-Class, air-conditioned, full luggage capacity
- Complimentary child seats on request
- A guaranteed driver — we do not depend on whoever happens to open the Uber app at 11 pm in August
When Uber Taxi Is Fine, and When It Is Not
Uber Taxi is fine for: a short, off-peak metered hop inside Corfu Town in shoulder season; a quick beach run on a quiet weekday in May or October; backup when you happen to be in town with no plan.
Pre-book a transfer instead for: any airport pickup, late-night arrivals, longer routes (Kassiopi, Sidari, Paleokastritsa, Acharavi, Kavos), groups of 4+ with luggage, weddings and events, cruise port transfers, anything you need to plan in advance, and any trip where being stranded would be a serious problem.
Other Ways to Get Around Corfu
KTEL public buses are cheap (€1.50–€5) but run on limited schedules and are impractical with luggage. Car rental is widely available at the airport, but Corfu has narrow mountain roads, limited parking in Corfu Town, and some nationalities need an international driving permit. Hourly chauffeur hire is an excellent middle ground for day trips to Paleokastritsa, Old Perithia or Mount Pantokrator where driving is challenging.
Bottom Line
Uber works in Corfu, but only as a thin app layer over the same rank-cab fleet — same supply, same shortages, no advance booking, no fixed price. If you need certainty (an arrival pickup, a late flight, a remote villa, a group, a confirmed price) pre-book a private transfer. If you just want a metered ride from Corfu Town to a beach on a Tuesday in May, Uber Taxi will probably do the job.
